Above sea level, at the Capitol steps

Drink more water in Denver, and pace the first night.

Denver's official elevation is 5,280 feet. The CDC's altitude illness guidance is about sleeping at 8,000 feet or higher, so a weekend that sleeps in Denver is well below it. Visit Denver still advises about twice as much water as at home, and the CDC notes that altitude symptoms feel like a hangover, which is easy to confuse on a bachelorette weekend.

Denver Microbrew Tour lists public tours at $55 a person, against a night of covers and bottle prices.

A night in the mountains
+$180

An extra night in a mountain town. Sleeping at 8,000 feet or higher is where the CDC altitude advice applies.

Planning a Denver bachelorette party: altitude, the rules and the money

What to know before booking a Denver bachelorette weekend.

A Denver bachelorette party is craft beer, rooftop cocktails, a drag show, a creative class and mountain views, at about $1,120 a head for two nights as a Revelwick estimate. The planning is about the altitude, the rental license rule, Colorado's alcohol and cannabis laws, and picking a month outside the snow season.

Altitude, water and the first night

Denver's official elevation is 5,280 feet, measured on the west steps of the State Capitol, and the famous amphitheater west of town is at 6,450 feet. The CDC's altitude illness guidance applies to travelers sleeping at 8,000 feet or higher, and says day trips that return to a lower altitude at night are much less stressful on the body. A group that stays in Denver is below that line. Visit Denver still recommends about twice as much water as at home, and the CDC describes altitude symptoms as similar to a hangover, so drink water and keep the arrival night easy.

The rental license rule

Denver requires a license for any rental of less than 30 days, allows it only in the host's primary residence, and requires the license number on the listing. Rental platforms may not take payment for an unlicensed Denver rental. For a group of nine, that makes a downtown hotel or a licensed home the owner lives in the options to look for.

Alcohol hours and buying drinks

Colorado bars and restaurants may serve from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m., and stores sell sealed alcohol from 8 a.m. to midnight every day, Sunday included. Grocery and convenience stores can sell beer and wine but not spirits, so buy liquor at a liquor store. Drinking in public places is not allowed outside licensed premises. Passengers 21 and over may drink aboard a licensed luxury limousine or charter bus, but the operator cannot sell the alcohol without its own license.

Cannabis rules for the group

Adults 21 and over can buy up to one ounce at a licensed store and have up to two ounces. Use is not allowed in public places, including sidewalks, parks, bars, restaurants and concert venues, and not in a car, parked or moving. Hotels can ban it in rooms, Red Rocks prohibits all marijuana products, and driving high is a DUI. Cannabis cannot be taken to the airport or out of the state.

When to go

NOAA normals for Denver give highs of 71 degrees in May, 83 in June, 90 in July and 80 in September. The National Weather Service puts the average first snow on October 19 and the last on April 28, so March and April are not snow-free, and it advises planning shelter from summer lightning for outdoor events. Red Rocks concerts run from March through November. The National Western Stock Show runs January 9 to 24, 2027, and the Great American Beer Festival is October 10 to 11, 2026.

Getting from the airport

The RTD A Line runs from the Transit Center on Level 1 of Denver International Airport to Union Station in about 37 minutes, and Visit Denver lists the fare at $10. The airport puts a taxi or rideshare at 25 to 35 minutes depending on traffic.

Where the money goes

The house or hotel is the largest line at about $330 a head, then getting there at about $300, food and drink at about $270 and the night out at about $220. A concert in the foothills adds about $110 a head with rides, and a brewery tour instead of a club night saves about $60.

Denver, Austin or Scottsdale

Denver at about $1,120 costs the same as Austin and about fifty dollars a head less than Scottsdale. Choose Denver for breweries, rooftops and a mountain concert, Austin for live music and a lake day, and Scottsdale for a pool weekend. The Denver itinerary has the weekend hour by hour.

Water first, a licensed stay, and the mountains in season.
