Check the race and convention dates before anything else.

The Speedway lists the Grand Prix on May 14 to 15 and the Indianapolis 500 window from May 18 to 30, 2027, and Gen Con returns August 5 to 8, 2027. Visit Indy counts 12 hotels linked to the convention center by skywalk, so big events and bachelorette weekends compete for the same downtown rooms.

Planning an Indianapolis bachelorette weekend: the rules, the calendar and the money

What to know before you take on the booking.

A bachelorette party in Indianapolis is a perfect mix for the bride to enjoy: a rooftop on Mass Ave, duckpin bowling, a comedy show and a party bus, at about $840 a head for two nights as a Revelwick estimate. The planning is about the race and convention calendar.

Drinks and the law

The drinking age is 21. Indiana allows drinks to be served from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m., with 30 minutes to finish, though each bar sets its own closing time. Stores sell alcohol to carry out on Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. Walking with a drink is allowed only in a designated outdoor refreshment area, and the only one in the city code is in Irvington, not Mass Ave. Limousines and charter buses are exempt from the open container rule.

When to go

NOAA normals give highs of about 82 degrees in June, the wettest month, and 66 in October, with highs near 36 and normal snowfall in January. Race month runs May 14 to 30, 2027, Gen Con is August 5 to 8, 2027, and NASCAR's Brickyard Weekend is July 23 to 25, 2027.

Getting around

Visit Indy puts the city center about a 15 minute cab ride from IND, where taxis have a $20 minimum. IndyGo Route 8 runs from the airport to downtown for $2.75 with a $6 daily cap, and the Red Line reaches Broad Ripple.

Where the money goes

Rooms are the largest line at about $290 a head, then food at about $240, getting there at about $180 and the night out at about $130.

The race calendar checked, a Mass Ave base, and one district a night.
