Planning the weekend: the rules, the calendar and the money
What to know before booking the celebration.
A Milwaukee bachelorette party is a fun celebration of beer halls, a cruise, a rooftop lounge and a Friday fish fry for the bride, at about $820 a head for two nights as a Revelwick estimate. The planning is about summer, the Summerfest dates and group size on the water.
Drinks and the law
The drinking age is 21. Bars close at 2 a.m., and at 2:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Stores sell beer, wine and liquor from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. City code bans open containers on streets and sidewalks, and pedal tavern riders may carry only beer, up to 36 ounces each, with no riding after 10:30 p.m. In a private car no one may hold an open container, but a hired limousine or bus is exempt.
When to go
NOAA normals at Mitchell Airport give highs of about 77 degrees in June, 82 in July, 74 in September and 61 in October. Summerfest fills nine days over three weekends, June 24 to July 10 in 2027, at Henry Maier Festival Park next to the Third Ward.
Group size on the water
The Duffy boats take up to 12 and the Paddle Tavern up to 16 with a captain. Federal rules require a Coast Guard inspected vessel for a crewed charter with more than six paying passengers, or a self-drive charter with more than 12.
Getting around
Mitchell Airport is about 8 miles from downtown, and MCTS Route 80 runs there for $2.75. The Hop streetcar is free on its 2.1 mile route through the Third Ward, East Town and the Lower East Side. The Amtrak Hiawatha reaches Chicago in about 90 minutes.
Where the money goes
Rooms are the largest line at about $270 a head, then food at about $230, getting there at about $200 and the night out at about $120.
