Adults per short-term rental in the City of Charleston

A whole house for nine downtown is not a legal city rental, so book hotel rooms or look beyond the city.

City of Charleston zoning says a residential short-term rental is run by the owner, who must be sleeping on the property while guests stay, and holds up to four adults. In the Old and Historic District the building must also be individually listed on the National Register. The permit number must appear on every listing.

Planning a Charleston bachelorette weekend

Getting around, drinks and the calendar.

A Charleston bachelorette party is a walking weekend of Southern food, rooftop cocktails, Upper King Street nightlife and a boat or beach afternoon. Downtown Charleston hotels are the easy, legal way to keep a group of nine together, and the beaches are a morning away.

Getting there and around

Hotel Bennett puts Charleston International Airport 11 miles away, about 25 to 30 minutes by car; taxis charge a $17 minimum from the airport, and CARTA Route 11 runs to downtown. The DASH shuttle is free around the historic peninsula, and Discover South Carolina says the whole peninsula takes about an hour by bike.

Drinks and the law

The drinking age is 21. Bars can serve until 2 a.m. City code bans open containers on streets and sidewalks, and state law bans open drinks in any motor vehicle, with no party bus exception in the sections read. Pedicab passengers cannot drink. A captained boat carrying more than six passengers must be Coast Guard inspected.

When to go

NOAA downtown normal highs are about 72 degrees in April, 79 in May and 76 in October, against 87 in July. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, peaking around September 10. In 2027, Charleston Wine + Food runs March 3 to 7 and the Cooper River Bridge Run is April 3; Spoleto Festival USA ran May 22 to June 7 in 2026.

Noise

City code bans loud gatherings that disturb the peace and amplified music audible from the street after 11 p.m.

Rooms downtown, a couch booked for the night, and the spirits bought by Saturday at 7.

Where this comes from

The costs are Revelwick estimates. The places and rules are as published in September 2026.

What the figures are

Every cost on this page labeled an estimate is a Revelwick editorial estimate for a group of about nine over two nights. It is a starting point for a budget conversation rather than a quote, so check current prices before you book.

The places named here

Every hotel, bar, restaurant and tour on this page is named by at least three independent sources, at least one of them authoritative, and its hours and terms are as published on its own website in September 2026. Revelwick has not visited them, does not rate them and is not paid by them.

Where the rules come from

Rental and noise rules are from the City of Charleston Zoning Ordinance and Code, drinking and liquor store rules from the South Carolina Code and Department of Revenue, beach rules from the City of Isle of Palms Code, the boat rule from Coast Guard regulations, transit from CARTA, hurricane season from the National Hurricane Center, weather from NOAA climate normals, and event dates from their organizers.
