Couples wedding shower games play to a room of 35. Half of it standing.

A couples shower is not a bridal shower with men added. The room doubles, part of it stands, and the seated pen and paper games that carry a bridal shower stop fitting. The games that survive put the couple at the front and give everybody else something to watch.

02

Wedding shower games for couples that work

Four that suit a mixed, partly standing room, and two that work if the guests are seated.

01

The shoe game

The couple sit back to back, each holding one of their own shoes and one of the other's, and raise the right shoe for questions like who is the better cook or who said I love you first. It needs two chairs and ten questions, and it is the one couples shower game nearly every guest already understands.

02

He said, she said, out loud

The emcee reads a quote and the guests call out which of the couple said it. Collect the quotes a week ahead. It works standing because nobody writes anything down.

03

Family against family trivia

Ten questions about the couple, with the bride's side against the groom's side shouting the answers. It mixes two families who have mostly never met, which is the real job of a couples shower.

04

Guess the photo

Eight photographs of the couple as children or teenagers on a board, and guests guess who is who. It runs passively for the whole party, needs nobody to stop the room, and is the game older guests enjoy most.

05

Advice and date night cards

Not a game, and it works at any size. A card for marriage advice or a date night idea at the door, collected into a jar the couple opens later.

06

Bingo, if the guests are seated

Handed out at the door with the guesses aimed at both of them, so tools and garden gifts are live squares. It only works when the gifts are opened in the room, which at thirty-five guests is worth reconsidering.

03

More co-ed wedding shower game ideas

Classic and popular games for a couples shower, with how each one is played.

01

The newlywed game

The bride and groom answer the same questions separately, then reveal their cards. The couple wins a point for every answer that matches.

02

How well do you know the couple

A printed or read out quiz on the bride and groom: where they met, the first date, favorite food. The guest with the most correct answers wins.

03

Two truths and a lie

The couple tells three stories about their relationship and guests guess which one is the lie.

04

Emoji pictionary

Cards with movie titles, songs or wedding words written in emojis. Guests write the answer, and the first team to finish wins.

05

Find the guest

A card of short descriptions, such as has known the groom since kindergarten or flew in from another state. Guests mingle to find someone who fits each one, a good icebreaker for two families.

06

Romantic comedy charades

Teams act out love story movie titles. Easy to play standing, and fun for guests of every age.

07

Ring hunt

Plastic rings hidden around the house or yard, and whoever finds the most wins a prize.

08

Guess the love song

The host plays a few seconds of a love song, and teams write down the title and the artist.

09

How old were the bride and groom

Pictures of the couple at different ages, and guests guess the age in each photo.

10

Couples jeopardy

Categories about the bride, the groom, the proposal and the wedding, with a host reading the clues and teams buzzing in.

11

Pass the bouquet

A musical game: guests pass a bouquet while the music plays and answer a question about the couple when it stops.

12

Wedding scavenger hunt

A list of items or photos to find, played in teams. It works well outdoors at a backyard couples shower.

Why bridal shower games stop working at a couples shower

The standing room, the two families, the emcee, and the games to leave out.

Couples wedding shower games are a different category from bridal shower games because the guest list is different. A bridal shower is about eighteen women, seated, facing the same way. A couples shower with both sides invited is closer to thirty-five people, men and women, partly standing, with drinks in hand, and the pen and paper format that carries a bridal shower loses half the guests within a minute.

Put the couple at the front

The games that work at a couples shower are the ones where the couple plays and everybody else watches: the shoe game, a quiz read out loud, a trivia round with the families shouting. Watching is something a standing crowd can do. Filling in a sheet is not.

That also takes the pressure off guests who would rather not play at all, which at a couples shower includes most of the groom's uncles. A game with an audience is inclusive by default.

One emcee, ten minutes, at the moment the guests are already gathered

Name one friend to run the game, with the questions printed on a card. Run it when the guests have already gathered for something else, the cake or a toast, rather than calling thirty-five people together from a garden and a kitchen.

Ten minutes is the ceiling. A standing crowd starts peeling back to its conversations after that, and a game that ends while people are still laughing is better than one that finishes after they have stopped.

The games that mix two families

The quiet job of a couples shower is introducing the two families, who have often met twice. Family against family trivia does that better than any icebreaker, because it gives each side a reason to cheer and a reason to talk to the other side afterwards.

A photo board does it more gently. Guests stand at it, point at the pictures and ask each other which one is the groom at eleven, which is a conversation starter that needs no instructions.

Coed wedding shower games, by the size of the room

Coed wedding shower games scale differently from bridal shower games. Under twenty guests, a seated round of he said, she said on paper can work, because the room fits around one table. At thirty or more, switch to games the emcee reads out loud and teams shout the answers to, since nobody wants to find a pen in a garden.

Teams are the easy fix for a big room. Split the guests by the bride's side and the groom's side, or by the table they are standing nearest, and the whole guest list plays without anybody being singled out.

The bride and groom quiz, written well

The quiz is the center of the best wedding shower games for couples, and the questions decide whether it is fun. Good questions have an answer the couple might genuinely disagree on: who proposed, who picked the ring, who is the better driver, who will guess the answers wrong. Ask the bride and groom separately a week ahead and print the list for the emcee.

Skip questions whose answer embarrasses one of them in front of their grandparents, and skip anything that only their college friends would understand. The round works when all the guests can guess along.

An activity for the guests who will not play

Some guests at a couples shower would rather watch. Give them a passive activity that runs all afternoon: the photo guessing board, a date night idea jar, or a map where guests pin where the couple should go on their first anniversary. Those guests join in on their own time, and nobody has to be persuaded.

A small prize for whoever gets the most photo guesses right gives the board a finish without stopping the room.

How to choose co-ed wedding shower games

Choose the games by the guest list and the party format. A seated dinner can hold a written quiz or the newlywed game with answer cards. A backyard barbecue or cocktail party suits games played standing and in teams, like charades, a ring hunt or pass the bouquet. Add one icebreaker such as find the guest if the two families do not know each other yet.

Ask the bride and groom first. Some couples love being the center of a game, and some would rather the guests play among themselves. Write the questions with their help so nothing specific catches either of them off guard, and print free cards or write them by hand.

What to skip at a couples shower

Anything that splits the guests into men and women, which is a bachelor and bachelorette format rather than a shower one. Drinking games, because the party has both sets of parents in it. And any game with a joke about the couple's private life, which is funny to their friends and awkward for everybody else.

Also skip the long seated games that suit a bridal shower. Bingo can work if the guests are genuinely seated and the gifts are opened in it, but at thirty-five guests the gifts often go on a table instead, and bingo without a gift opening has nothing to run under.

Prizes that suit a mixed room

Unisex and small: a good chocolate bar, a lottery ticket, a small bottle of something, a coffee gift card. The winner of a family trivia round is a whole side of the room, so the prize for that one is bragging rights and first go at the cake.

Keep the prize line inside the shower's paper and prizes budget. A couples shower already costs more per head to host than a bridal shower, and the prizes are not where the extra money should go.

Watching is something a standing crowd can do. Filling in a sheet is not.

Couples shower games, answered

What to play, how long, and who runs it.

What are good couples wedding shower games?

The shoe game, he said she said read out loud, family against family trivia, and a guess the photo board.

All four put the couple at the front and give the rest of the guests something to watch rather than paper to fill in.

How do you play the shoe game?

The couple sit back to back, each holding one of their own shoes and one of the other's, and raise the shoe of whoever the answer is.

Ten questions: who cooks, who said I love you first, who is always late. It needs two chairs and an emcee.

How many games should a couples shower have?

One or two, about ten minutes each.

A couples shower is a party with a center rather than a seated afternoon, and a standing crowd drifts after ten minutes.

Who should run the games?

One friend with a loud voice and the questions on a card.

Not the couple, who are playing, and not the host, who is refilling drinks.

Do bridal shower games work for couples?

Mostly not. Pen and paper games lose a standing, co-ed crowd within a minute.

Bingo can work if the guests are seated and the gifts are opened in it, which at thirty-five guests is often not the case.

What should we avoid?

Games that split the guests into men and women, drinking games with both sets of parents present, and jokes about the couple's private life.

Those belong to the bachelor and bachelorette parties rather than the shower.

What are coed wedding shower games?

Games that work for a co-ed crowd of men and women: the shoe game, family against family trivia, and a quiz on the couple read out loud.

They avoid anything that splits the guests by gender or needs everybody seated with a pen.

How do teams work at a couples shower?

Split the guests by the bride's side and the groom's side, or by where they are standing.

The emcee reads the questions and teams shout the answers, so a large party plays together.

What if half the guests do not want to play?

Give them a passive activity: a photo guessing board or a date night idea jar that runs all afternoon.

They join in on their own time and nobody has to be persuaded.

How do you play the newlywed game at a couples shower?

The bride and groom answer the same questions on cards without seeing each other's answers, then reveal them.

The couple wins a point for each match, and the host keeps it to ten questions.

What are good icebreaker games for a co-ed wedding shower?

Find the guest, two truths and a lie, and a photo guessing board.

They get the two families talking without anyone performing.

Where this comes from

The costs are Revelwick estimates. The couple-at-the-front rule is ours.

What the figures are

Every cost on this page is a Revelwick editorial estimate for a bridal shower of about eighteen guests. It is a starting point for a budget conversation rather than a quote, and prices move, so check the current price before you book anything.

What is ours

Sorting couples shower games on whether a standing, co-ed crowd can watch them is ours. It follows from the format rather than from any particular game.

The guest count of about thirty-five is a planning assumption for a shower with both sides invited, not a measurement. We do not name shops or brands.
