How to run bridal shower bingo
Six steps, and the two that decide whether the game works.
Print a blank grid
Twenty-five spaces, a free space in the middle, one per guest, printed at home the week before. A blank grid is better than a pre-printed card, because the guests fill it themselves and the guessing is the game.
Give the room the registry, roughly
Say out loud what kind of things the couple asked for: kitchen, bedding, glassware, a gift card, something for the garden. Without that the squares are random and nobody marks anything off.
Fill the cards before the first gift
Five minutes, everybody writing at once, while the bride is still sitting down. Filling cards while she holds an unopened box is how a game slows down the part it was supposed to cover.
Mark as she unwraps
Every guest marks her own squares. Nobody has to announce anything until they have a line, which keeps the room watching the bride rather than the paper.
Call it, quietly
A hand up and a word rather than a shout. The bride is mid gift and the moment belongs to whoever gave it.
Have a second and third prize
Somebody usually wins inside ten minutes. Two more prizes, for the next line and for a full card, keep the game running for the whole forty-five minutes.

Bridal bingo variations and ideas
The traditional gift version, plus bingo games that work when the gifts are not opened in the room.
Traditional gift bingo
Guests fill each space with a gift they think the bride will open, and mark them off during the gift opening. The first complete row wins.
Bride and groom bingo
Spaces filled with facts about the couple, called out by the host: where they met, the first date, the proposal. Guests who know the bride and groom best win.
Something blue bingo
Blue themed spaces for a something blue shower, with the words called from a bowl.
Love song bingo
Song titles in the spaces, and the host plays the first seconds of each song. A fun music game for any guest list.
Emoji bingo
Wedding words drawn as emojis, and guests match them to the called words.
Advice bingo
Guests write a piece of marriage advice in each space, then the bride reads her favorite advice aloud.
Celebrity and movie wedding bingo
Famous wedding couples or wedding movie titles in the spaces, called at random.
Date night bingo
Date night ideas in each space. After the game, the bride keeps every card as a year of date nights.
Wedding word bingo
A word bingo with wedding vocabulary like veil, vows, bouquet and honeymoon, called at random. It works for a virtual shower too.

Why bridal shower bingo is the one game worth keeping
The job it does, how to fill the squares, the variations, and the ways it goes flat.
Most shower games are an interruption that the host has to announce twice. Bridal shower bingo is the exception, because it runs underneath the part of the afternoon that already exists: the gift opening, which at eighteen guests takes about forty-five minutes and gives the room nothing to do but watch somebody else unwrap towels.
What to write in the squares
Ordinary household guesses, in ordinary words: towels, a mixing bowl, a candle, a picture frame, wine glasses, a gift card, something for the kitchen, bedding, a cookbook, something handmade. Twenty-five of those and the card fills in five minutes.
The squares that ruin it are the too specific ones. A guest who writes stand mixer has one chance of marking it, and a card of twenty-five long shots is a card nobody looks at after the third gift. Tell the room to write categories rather than products.
Free printables against making your own
Free printable bingo cards are everywhere and most of them come pre-printed, which is the version to avoid. Pre-filled cards turn the game into luck alone, and the fun of this one is that the guests guessed.
A blank grid printed at home costs a few dollars for eighteen sheets and takes ten minutes to set up in any document program. If a pre-printed card is all that is available, at least have guests cross out five spaces and write their own.
The prizes, and why one is not enough
Somebody gets a line inside the first ten minutes, and if that is the only prize the game is over while the bride still has fifteen gifts to open. Two or three small prizes, for the first line, the second line and a full card, keep it alive for the whole stretch.
Small and immediate is the rule here as everywhere: a candle, a chocolate bar, a lottery ticket. The prize is the moment rather than the object, and handing it over as it is won beats collecting winners for a ceremony later.
Variations that work
For a couples shower, run the same cards with the guesses aimed at both of them, which makes the tool gift and the garden thing live squares rather than jokes. For a smaller shower, a four by four grid finishes faster and suits twenty minutes of gifts rather than forty-five.
A gentler variation for a bride who would rather not open gifts in the room at all: the cards get filled in during the arrival half hour, and the host reads out what is on the gift table afterwards. It keeps the game and removes the part the bride did not want.
How bridal shower bingo goes flat
Three ways. Cards handed out while the bride is already unwrapping, so the first five gifts happen in silence while everybody writes. Squares too specific to hit. And a single prize, claimed early, after which the room stops marking.
The fourth, less common, is a host who calls each guest's card out loud. Nobody needs eighteen cards read, and it turns a quiet parallel game into the thing that slows the gift opening down.
Free printable bingo cards, and making your own in ten minutes
Free printable bridal shower bingo cards are easy to find and most of them are pre-printed, which is the version that turns the game into pure luck. If you download one, have each player cross out five spaces and write her own guesses in, which restores the part of the game that makes people look up from the paper.
Making your own takes ten minutes in any document program: a five by five table, a free space in the middle, the couple's names along the top, eighteen copies printed at home. It costs a few dollars, every card is blank, and the same file works for the next shower with one word changed.
Where it sits in the afternoon
One game at the arrival, bingo during the gifts, and nothing else. That is the whole game plan for a shower and it is the same recommendation this site makes on its shower games page, which covers the other options and the ones to skip.
If the host only has time to prepare one thing, it should be this, because it is the only game that fixes a real gap rather than filling one that was not there.
Somebody wins inside ten minutes. With one prize the game is over while the bride still has fifteen gifts to open.

Bridal shower bingo, answered
How to make it, when to play it, and what to put in the squares.
How do you play bridal shower bingo?
Each guest fills a blank grid with guesses about what the couple will unwrap, then marks them off as the gifts are opened.
First line wins, then a second line, then a full card. It runs underneath the gift opening rather than interrupting it.
What goes in the bingo squares?
Categories rather than products: towels, a mixing bowl, a candle, glassware, bedding, a gift card, something for the kitchen.
Tell the room what kind of things the couple registered for, or the squares are random and nobody marks anything.
When do you hand out the cards?
Before the gift opening, with five minutes for everybody to fill them in.
Handing them out while the bride is holding a box means the first five gifts happen in silence while the room writes.
How many prizes do you need?
Two or three. Somebody gets a line inside ten minutes and the gifts take about forty-five.
Small and handed over as they are won: a candle, a chocolate bar, a lottery ticket.
Should we use free printable bingo cards?
Use a blank grid rather than a pre-printed card. The guessing is what makes the game work.
A blank five by five with a free space takes ten minutes to make and costs a few dollars to print for eighteen guests.
Does bingo work at a couples shower?
Yes, with the guesses aimed at both of them, which brings tools, garden things and gadgets onto the cards honestly.
The room is bigger and partly standing, so hand the cards out at the door rather than at the seats.
What if the bride does not want to open gifts in the room?
Fill the cards during the arrival half hour and have the host read out what is on the gift table afterwards.
It keeps the game and removes the part the bride did not want, which is the whole point of asking her first.
Where do I get printable bridal shower bingo cards?
Free printables are everywhere, and most come pre-printed. If you use one, have each player cross out five spaces and write her own guesses.
A blank five by five table made at home takes ten minutes and prints for eighteen players for a few dollars.
How many players does bingo need?
Any number. Every guest plays her own card in parallel, which is why it works at a shower of eighteen and at one of thirty-five.
At a wedding shower with the groom's side in the room, hand the cards out at the door rather than at the seats.
What are bridal bingo variations?
Traditional gift bingo, bride and groom bingo, love song bingo, emoji bingo, advice bingo, celebrity wedding bingo and date night bingo.
Pick one that fits whether the gifts are opened in the room.
How do you win bridal shower bingo?
Complete a row across, down or diagonally, then call bingo so the host can check it.
Keep playing for a second row and a full card.

Where this comes from
The costs are Revelwick estimates. The three prize rule is ours.
What the figures are
Every cost on this page is a Revelwick editorial estimate for a bridal shower of about eighteen guests. It is a starting point for a budget conversation rather than a quote, and prices move, so check the current price before you book anything.
What is ours
Treating bingo as the game that covers the gift opening, rather than as one game among six, is ours, and it is why it survives when the rest get cut.
So is the instruction to use a blank grid and to have more than one prize. We do not name shops or printables.
