Planning San Diego bachelorette activities: the rules

What the city and the state allow.

Bachelorette activities in San Diego can mix the water, a spa or pool day, a tasting and a night out: a surf lesson or kayak tour, Spa Pendry, a wine or beer tasting, and drag at Lips. Check each booking's group size and price per person before the trip.

Drinks and the beach

The drinking age is 21. The city bans drinking at any time on its beaches, boardwalks, cliffs, Mission Bay Park, coastal parks and their parking lots, and on streets and sidewalks. Groups over 50 and amplified music on the beach need a permit, and lifeguards are generally on duty from 9 a.m. to dusk.

Boats and buses

A hired boat with a crew and more than six passengers must be a Coast Guard inspected vessel. In a licensed party bus or limo, adult passengers may drink; the company must be told if anyone is under 21, and a chaperone aged 25 or older must ride along.

The certificate on the boat, and the drinks off the sand.

The activity ruleBefore booking

6

Guests on an uninspected charter

A hired boat for a bigger group must be Coast Guard inspected.

Federal rules let an uninspected charter with a crew carry no more than six passengers. A bachelorette party of nine on a private boat with a captain needs an inspected small passenger vessel, so ask the operator for the Certificate of Inspection before paying.

Where this comes from

The places and rules are as published by their own sources in September 2026.

The places named here

Every spa, bar, club and activity named on this page is named by at least three independent sources, at least one of them authoritative, and its hours, prices and group rules are as published on its own website in September 2026. Revelwick has not visited them, does not rate them and is not paid by them.

Where the rules come from

Beach and fire rules are from the City of San Diego lifeguards and Municipal Code, the charter rule from Coast Guard regulations, party bus rules from the California Vehicle Code and Public Utilities Code, and whale seasons, kayaking and wineries from the San Diego Tourism Authority.

What the figures are

Any cost given as a per head figure here is a Revelwick editorial estimate for a group of about nine over two nights. It is a starting point for a budget conversation rather than a quote, so check current prices before you book.
