07

Planning an Ocean City bachelorette weekend: the rules, the season and getting there

What to know before booking.

An Ocean City, Maryland bachelorette party is a licensed rental near the Boardwalk or Midtown, a day at Seacrets or on a boat, crabs for dinner and a night at Fager's Island. Plan it for the summer season and use the Beach Bus to get around.

Drinks and the law

The drinking age is 21, and bars in Worcester County close at 2 a.m. The town bans drinking and open containers on the beach, the Boardwalk, streets, parking lots and in vehicles, with fines up to $5,000. State law exempts passengers in hired buses and limousines, but the town ordinance bans open containers in vehicles on its streets, so do not plan drinks on a party bus in town. A captained boat carrying more than six passengers needs a Coast Guard inspection.

When to go

The Beach Patrol guards the beach from Memorial Day weekend to the third Sunday after Labor Day, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. NOAA normals give highs of about 79 degrees in June, 84 in July and 77 in September.

Getting there

The tourism bureau puts Ocean City about 150 miles and 3 hours from Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia, and 5 hours from New York. Salisbury Regional Airport is about 30 minutes away.

A licensed rental, drinks off the sand, and the bus to Seacrets.

The OCMD orderBefore booking

$4

Beach Bus, ride all day

The Coastal Highway bus runs the length of town, every 15 minutes in summer.

The Town of Ocean City runs the Beach Bus from the South Division Street Transit Station to 144th Street, about every 15 minutes from 6 a.m. to 3 a.m. between May 22 and September 13, 2026, for a $4 exact cash fare that covers the whole day.
